The Final Cover - Art in the Print Edition - The Story Behind the Story
The Force of Magic Story
The idea for the Force of Magic trilogy was first born in January of 2022, with the idea of combining two of my favorite things growing up: fantasy stories and comic book superheroes. After coming up with the premise and Perin and Trace, I needed to decide what would happen. Shortly afterwards, I drafted out the outline for a trilogy with the endings of all three books planned from the beginning.
Along the way, many things shifted, but in the end, all three books finished up exactly where I planned for them to. Spoiler Alert: Book one ends with our heroes only narrowly escaping certain destruction through the intervention of an unexpected ally. This ending was inspired by something I read years ago in The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant: The Unbeliever. Thomas Covenant was one of the first great anti-heroes of fantasy. The books aren’t for everyone, but I’ve read them multiple times.
Book Two is my Empire Strikes Back. By this, I don’t mean that it has anything to do with the Star Wars universe, but that it is the ending where everything seems hopeless and blown apart. We don’t know who survived and if it will be possible for them to accomplish what they’ve set out to do.
Book Three is the grand finale and I’ve very pleased with how it has come out. I believe it’s the best of the trilogy and I’ve become a better writer over the course of the last two years. I always wanted to write a fantasy trilogy and it feels amazing to have achieved that goal. It was a lot of work, but well worth it. If you enjoy fantasy stories, I hope you’ll pick up The Force of Magic and start reading it today. It’s only .99 cents to get started.
The Power of Destiny Cover Reveal
Other than my family and the designer, you, my faithful newsletter readers, are the first to see this design. Book three’s cover is meant to invoke the potential for the end of all things and the possible hopelessness of the state in which the story begins. I hope you like it.
